Wrapping Banku In Polythene Is Proportional To Smoking 136 Sticks Of Cigarette

A researcher of the University of Ghana Medical School is warning of dire consequences in the continuous use of plastic materials in food packaging.

According to Dominic Gyamfi, plastic materials such as polythene bags, plastic bowls and take away packs contains harmful chemicals which is very dangerous to the health of consumers.

The specialist who uncovered this on Adom FM said, the report depends in his optional examination in the course of the most recent three years.

He unveiled that ,” wrapping polythene with banku is proportional to smoking  136 sticks of cigarette. ” Mr. Gyamfi noticed that infections like diabetes ,low sperm check, hypertension, are on the ascent in light of the fact that “a large portion of the nourishments available are dangerous and harmful.”

“Scientifically, plastics will blur and the synthetic compounds will filter into the food we expend and this can cause blockages in to the veins, promoting cardiovascular infections, for example, hypertension, diabetes and stroke,” he said.

The synthetic, the specialist included lull the speed at which the blood streams into the heart and cerebrum making the individual presented to a wide range of constant sickness.

Dominic Gyamfi kept up that, 80% of deaths in Ghana could have been maintained a strategic distance from if individuals are cautious about what they expend. Be that as it may,James Larbi, the Communications Director of the Food and Drugs Authority exposed a large portion of the cases by Mr. Gyamfi.

He demanded that the statement had no logical proof ,however was fairly a result of work area research. Or maybe,Mr. Larbi encouraged Dominic Gyamfi to introduce his examination findings to the FDA to guarantee sanitation in Ghana.

High Court strips Accra Technical University of TUSAAG leadership

A Tamale High Court presided over by Justice Osei Gyamfi has given a month ultimatum to the Technical Universities Administrators Association of Ghana TUSAAG) to hand over leadership of the association to elected executives of the Bolgatanga Technical University.

The Court has also ordered executives of the Accra Technical University (AUT) who were sworn in as national executives to with immediate effect seize to hold themselves as such.

A GH¢20,000 damages has also been given in favour of the plaintiffs.

Bernard Ayamga, the President-elect for the Association at the Bolgatanga Technical University, could not hide his excitement after the judgement.

He told 3news.com he and his team are ready to take over the affairs of the Association for the next three years.

“We will provide an open, transparent and an all-inclusive leadership with focus on setting the right agenda for uplifting the image of administrators in all Technical Universities.”

The Association was formerly known as the Polytechnic Administrators Association of Ghana.

Leadership rotates from one Technical University to the other.

A conference is organized to determine which school gets the nod to host the national office of the Association.

The last Technical University to host the National office was the Tamale Technical University.

In 2018, when their three-year tenure expired, it was the turn of Bolgatanga Technical University to host the national office.

An election, subsequently described by members as free and fair, was organized and executives elected.

But Bolgatanga Technical University was denied a formal handing over with the reasons that the school was yet to be converted into a Technical University. This did not go down well with the elected executives and some members. They petitioned the Association but their petition got no attention.

A press conference was also held.

After several attempts to get the executives to do the right thing failed, they turned to the courts for redress.

While they were going to court, executives of the Accra Technical University were sworn into office.

This was challenged and the Association cited for contempt by the High Court in Tamale. Damages of GH¢6,000 were awarded to the plaintiffs.

After two years of back and front in court, the court finally delivered judgement that the leadership of the Association be given to elected executives of Bolgatanga Technical University.

DON’T BE STATIC DEVELOP YOURSELF ~KWAMI SEFA KAYI

Seasoned journalist, Kwami Sefa Kayi, also referred to as the Chairman General, has advised the youth to never be static in one position, but to look out for new avenues to better themselves in life.

In an interview with Rev. Erskine on the Y-Leaderboard Series which aired on Ghana’s number one urban radio station, YFM, he noted that talent, as they say, is good but relying on one’s talent alone does not get them anywhere.

“You need to hone your skills, you need to develop your skills because life has evolved. Life is a constant learning curve so you cannot sit in one place and say you’ll rely on your talent. Not in this kind of environment.

You need to self-develop. That, I’ll tell you for free any day. If you have a good job, you have a good voice, you have a flair for speaking, you have a flair for writing, people have told you good things about yourself, don’t let it get to your head. Continue to develop yourself and look for new avenues to make you better”, said Sefa Kayi.

The Chairman General further advised that the youth should look into other areas that they never imagined they had the strength to venture into, acquire knowledge in other areas and evolve as life evolves.

Thieves raid Nima police station, steal laptops, TV sets

The Nima police station has been robbed by thieves, Starr News has learnt.

The thieves reportedly made away with valuable items including laptops, printers, television sets and other stationery in the Thursday dawn raid.

According to Starr News’ Michael Insiah Otchere who has visited the scene, some officers also say their shirts which were hanging in the offices have been taken away by the bandits.

It is unclear how the thieves got access to offices of the police station as at least an officer is always expected to be at post.

Prisoners escape leaving behind a letter promising to be back in 15 days

Italian media reported the strange case of two inmates who managed to escape from Rebibbia prison and left behind a letter explaining their reason for escaping and promising to be back soon.

On the night of June 2nd, Davad Zukanovic, 40 and Lil Ahmetovic, 46, two cousins serving time at Rome’s Rebibbia prison, managed to escape by cutting through the bars on their prison cell window, rappelling down into the courtyard on a fire hydrant water hose and climbing over the outer walls by climbing the barbed wire with a wire cutter.

This alone was a feat worthy of a Hollywood movie, but what really made their escape stand out was the note they left in their prison cell, explaining that they had an urgent family problem to take care of and promising to be back in 15 days.about:blank

In their letter to the prison staff, Zukanovic and Ahmetovic claim that they had to escape in order to “protect their children from a nasty business they had got themselves into,” adding that they were the only ones able to do this, since both their wives are also behind bars.

At the end, a couple of lines read that the two plan to return and stand before the judicial authority as soon as their personal matter was resolved.

Italian police have no doubts about the authenticity of the letter since it was found in the cell they had escaped from and had their fingerprints on it, but they are having trouble believing the promise of the two fugitives, which is why they’ve been trying to track them. down and cut their little adventure short.

Zukanovic and Ahmetovic were serving sentences due to end in 2029 for non-violent crimes, including fraud and receiving stolen goods. Even if they respect the promise made in their letter, they are still facing a 5-year sentence extension for escaping the prison. That only makes their voluntary return even more unlikely.about:blank

According to surveillance videos from the prison, suspicious movement was detected at around 3 am, and considering that staff only noticed the two cousins’ absence at morning call, it is believed that they had at least a good 3-hour head-start on their pursuers.

Their mug shots were immediately shared with the police and the media, but the two have yet to be caught. Maybe Italian authorities will get lucky and Zukanovic and Ahmetovic will finish up their personal business sooner and stay true to their promise…

Ghana to use blood plasma as coronavirus treatment option

Ghana has taken the fight against COVID-19 a notch higher, with plans to introduce blood plasma as part of treatment options for those infected with the virus.

Under the initiative, COVID-19 patients with moderate and severe conditions would be given the plasma transfusion from recovered patients, to aid their recovery.

As a result, the National Blood Service (NBS) is beginning the collection of blood plasma from recovered patients for onward transfusion to yet-to-be recovered patients.

“The NBS is working very closely with the Ministry of Health, Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the COVID-19 treatment team to prepare convalescence plasma (CP) from patients who have recovered from COVID-19 for transfusion, as an empirical treatment to patients with severe or life-threatening COVID-19 infection,” said Dr. Justina Kordai Ansah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NBS.

Speaking on the sidelines during the commemoration of the World Blood Donor Day on June 14, under the theme: “Safe Blood Saves Lives,” Dr. Ansah said the move is based on the fact that patients who recover from diseases like Ebola and COVID-19, appear to have robust immune response to the infection.

“Antibodies in the plasma of recovered patients can be transfused to other COVID-19 patients to aid their recovery from the infection … once there is no vaccine this is the best line of treatment,” she explained.

Dr. Ansah added that the method is being used in other countries like Mauritius and said “people are recovering.”

She said the NBS is hoping to start the collection as soon as funds are released by the Ministry of Health for the purchase of consumables.

“We have the plasma forensics machine; we have the protocols; and approval from FDA, we are waiting on the Health Ministry to provide funding for consumables,” she said.

In this regard, Dr. Ansah encouraged recovered COVID-19 patients to step forward and donate blood to save the lives of other patients in critical condition.

“At the moment we have the list of those who have recovered and we want people who have recovered to come forward when we call so that they can be part of this process.

Once we start that, people who have moderate or severe COVID-19 can be treated with the plasma,” she said.

Alleged missing cocaine may have been swept away – GRA Sector Commander

The Sector Commander of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Division, Majeed Amandi is of the view that the 100.1 grams of suspected cocaine that mysteriously went missing may have been stolen by officials of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) or swept away.

The Director-General of NACOC, Francis Torkornoo had earlier indicated Customs officers had refused to allow the transportation of the substance which was concealed in a vehicle impounded by NACOC, to Accra.

“When they dropped the fuel tank, there was this false compartment under the vehicle containing various parcels and an amount of $200,000. After the inventory, as expected, NACOC wanted to the bring the vehicle to Accra for investigations to start, but the Customs officers refused, saying that they need to hear from their superiors from Accra,” he said.

Mr Amandi, however, dismissed this explanation in a statement, intimating that, it was intended to discount the Custom officers’ handling of the intercepted substance.

“It is my humble conclusion that there was a well-orchestrated plan intended to discredit the handling of intercepted narcotics by Customs. And further that NACOC officers have harboured a clear vendetta against Customs for numerous times that Customs have intercepted narcotic substances.”

“In view of the small size of the particular parcel concerned, i.e 100g whitish substance, it is my observation also that possibly the parcel could have dropped in the midst of the disorderliness of examination process at the conference room and was swept away together with the rubbish unnoticed or even pilfered by any of the NACOC officers who handled the substances during examination for their diabolical intentions.”

He expressed his dissatisfaction with attempts by NACOC to sabotage Customs officers.

“From the attitude of the NACOC officers before, during and after a physical examination of the intercepted cargo, it was clear also that, the sabotage of our operations cannot be ruled out. And also that misinformation, as well as a deliberate attempt to incriminate officers at the least opportunity, may not be ruled out.”

Francis Torkono had earlier also expressed similar sentiments.

He said although NACOB maintains a friendly relationship with the Customs Division of the GRA, it has not been enthused about some incidents that have happened in the recent past.

He cited an incident where NACOC had seized some suspected banned substance and due to some actions by Customs including announcing in the media that it was them who seized the items and that it was cocaine, NACOC was unable to arrest some suspects who were behind the transportation of the banned substance.

He said his outfit has since written to the Commissioner of Customs to request the transfer of the vehicle to NACOB to allow them to conduct investigations.

“As of now, we have not received any of the parcels to perform a close test to know that really the content has narcotic substances. And also if the items are handed to us, we will start our investigations…Nothing has been given to us so we have formally written to the Commission of Customers to transfer the vehicle and all the contents to the Narcotics Control Commission. Hitherto, it was something we said they should keep, but they arrogated it to themselves to say that they need clearance before they will take it to their Headquarters before giving to us and it is something that is bizarre.”

I don’t have confidence in any of my children – Kennedy Agyapong

Assin Central Member of Parliament(MP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong says he does not have confidence in any of his 22 children.

His reason is that you may not know who will come and save you when you need it most.

“I cannot sit here and tell you I love A than B, no because I don’t have confidence in anybody. You can make a mistake by trusting one child that she or he is going to be this he will be the one to disappoint you in life and the one that you think is stubborn and will not be of help will be the one to save you.” He said.

The lawmaker who made this known in an interview on Accra-based Citi TV monitored by MyNewsGh.com said he’s grown to know that the child you will reject and not hold in high esteem will rather be your saviour than the child who you revere.

He says because of that, he does not discriminate in loving his 22 children because he doesn’t know who will help him in the coming years.

The businessman indicated that due to this reason, he’s told himself that he will never make a lady commit an abortion for him adding that “my policy is that I’m against abortion and I’ve said to myself which will not happen because I don’t drink that much. Even if I get drunk and have sex with a prostitute and the prostitute comes back to tell me she’s pregnant I will accept it because you’ll never know who will help you one day.”

The lawmaker mentioned that currently, he has two wives and twenty-two children with twelve women.

He advised that getting married to two women is not an easy venture and therefore even if you’re financially sound, you don’t have to consider getting married to two women.

Mr Kennedy Agyapong said it’s either you divorce the old one and marry a new one but never combine the two because it’s not only capital intensive, it’s also draining and stressful.

Drivers, farmers and teachers top list of men impregnating girls in C/R – GHS

The Central Region has recorded a total of 3,198 teenage pregnancies from January to May this year.

According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), drivers, farmers and teachers continue to be the group of men impregnating the teens.

Madam Lydia Acquah, a Nutrition Officer at the Ekumfi District Health Directorate who revealed this described the situation as ‘very pathetic’ and called for pragmatic measures to be put in place to tackle it.

She was addressing some youth groups in Ekumfi at a day’s step down engagement between youth groups and policymakers on policy development and implementation on youth participation in decision making at Ekumfi.

The event was organised by the National Youth Authority (NYA) in collaboration with the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) with funding from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Speaking on adolescent sexual reproductive health and its related issues, Madam Acquah revealed that the spread of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) was common among adolescents.

She said accessing health services was a problem for teen expectant mothers and adolescents with STIs due to the stigma attached to them.

She said the Ghana Health Service (GHS) established adolescent-friendly clinics to specifically educate and respond to the reproductive health needs of the adolescent and to ensure they received adequate access to health services.

But surprisingly, she bemoaned, the adolescents were not patronising them.

This, she said could partly be the reason for the high teenage pregnancies in the Region.

Additionally, she indicated, sexual exploitation by some unscrupulous men, irresponsible parenting, misconceptions about family planning and lack of sex education and family planning had compounded the problem.

In the Ajumako Eyan Esiam District, where more than 237 teen pregnancies had been recorded, Mrs Esther Amankwah, Acting District Health Director underscored the need to assist and guide adolescents as they transitioned into adulthood.

She said adolescents were faced with several reproductive health challenges and that their inability to make the right choices could adversely destroy their future.

Mrs Amankwah cautioned the youth against drug abuse and said such risky behaviours could have lifelong consequences on their health, education and social lives.

ASP Doris Amewude, Deputy Central Regional DOVVSU Coordinator spoke about the role of the youth and other stakeholders in ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and stressed that rape and defilement cases must not be settled at home.

She admonished the youth, especially the males to be mindful of the consequences of their actions and inactions and endeavour to control their sexual drive in order not to come into conflict with the law.

ASP Awewude encouraged the youth to help create awareness, be ambassadors and preach against SGBV in their respective communities.

Patapaa sacked from German hospital for being black

Ghanaian singer, Patapaa Amisty, has waded into the racism fight with a bitter experience he encountered in Germany.

The artiste, born Justice Amoah, disclosed how he was maltreated as a black man in a German hospital he had visited with his sick girlfriend.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Ahosepe Show, the ‘One Corner’ hitmaker said when they traveled back to Germany after a visit to Ghana, his girlfriend took ill.

According to him, it was around 10:pm Ghana time when his girlfriend, Queen Patapeezy’s discomfort worsened and as caring as he could be, he followed her to the health facility.

To his dismay, upon seeing him, the doctor, in German language, questioned his presence for being black, and moreover since he was not a patient.

The singer added that he was saddened by the incident considering how hospitable Ghanaians are when it comes to the White community in the homeland.

To corroborate his story in the same interview, Queen Patapeezy expressed disappointment in how the doctor was interested in sacking Patapaa from the facility than attending to her.

“The doctor warned I will not be taken care of if he stays around but I also couldn’t watch them sack him so I left without any medical attention,” she said.
